Yes, yes, I know. We're getting to the end of the season. Soon.
I just had to post. I try to avoid spoilers, but I had no idea I was doing so well at it--how could I not know Derek Jacobi was to appear? He's one of my favorites, has been since I, Claudius (and you thought PBS was staid!), and I am just so thrilled to see him on my all-time favorite show that I don't know what to say (and yet, I'm posting...).
Okay, the plot may have left a little to be desired (as did the dentistry), but forget that!
My only disappointment is that the Master had to regenerate so we can't keep Derek Jacobi! ("But he followed me to my TV....") No, I'm not casting aspersions on John Simm, who seems delightfully over the top in just the few moments I've seen.
Here's the weirdest thing: while we were in London, two of my friends went to see a play starring John Simm; they encouraged me to come, but it was a lot of money, and I had other things I wanted to do (and I don't regret my sightseeing that day). I knew the name should sound familiar, but I couldn't think why!
Now I know. And in the airport Duty Free on my way home, I bought Season 1 of Life on Mars (somebody strongly recommended it to me; sorry, I can't remember who)--and never even read the back of the box to see that here was John Simm! My friends really enjoyed the play. I wish I'd gone--and I also wish that I'd had more money, and an extra half-day so that I could gone and still done other things! Oh, well. C'est la vie.
But did I mention Derek Jacobi? DJ as the Master--fantastic. DJ and David Tennant onscreen together--superb!
Yes, yes. If we're lucky, we'll finish off the season in the next two days. If we're not lucky, life will interfere (again) and it will take longer. So no spoilers! (La, la, la--I can't hear you!) I did see somewhere that the Master would be back, and I'd worked out another connection (which Brilliant Husband hasn't yet: "Now why would Martha know his voice?"), but I didn't expect him yet. (And no, I haven't even broken the plastic on Life on Mars yet.)
