aelfgyfu_mead: Aelfgyfu as a South Park-style cartoon (Winter Soldier)
( Jan. 1st, 2015 09:12 pm)
I know I haven't posted much in 2014. I've been reading a lot more than I've been writing, if that's any help! To try to get back into LJ, I'm reusing this meme from [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2. I am, however, apparently incapable of giving a single answer to most of the questions. Below a cut for length )

First: someone on my flist wrote a Cabin Pressure story connected with "Vaduz," and I missed the episode and so feared to read the story in case there were spoilers. I finally broke down and bought "Vaduz" and listened (love it!)—and now I can't remember who wrote the fic and where it is.

If you wrote it, or know where it is, please tell me where I can find it!

Second: I just think it's hilarious that the top of my Friends Page says this:
"You're using the old version of the Friends page — switch to the new one and try to customize it."
try to customize it. Go on—I dare you!

Well, Mark Gatiss has announced the three words for Sherlock series 3 as he and Moffatt did for s2.

His initial Tweet is here, later admitted to be fake. (At least one person has already posted a fic to AO3 apparently based on the fakes.)

And here's the real thing (I guess).
Here you can read speculation.
Feel free also to speculate in comments to this entry, unless you have actual spoilers based on real information, in which case you should take it elsewhere! I limit my spoilers greatly. (Spoilers for the three words are likely in comments, by the way.)

And my own speculation )

For those of us wondering: there will be a Cabin Pressure series 4! The FAQ is actually quite interesting, with at worst a couple of very, very minor spoilers for those of us who haven't heard the entire series (although I own it, so I can't explain why I haven't made it through yet; I treasure each episode).

And can I just quote my favorite bits?
Q) What do you mean you don't know? Get on with writing it, you lazy writer!
A) Fair point, I am a lazy writer, but on this occasion that's not actually the problem. By stupidly casting incredibly talented and in-demand actors (plus me), we've accidentally made it really really hard to get everyone together in a room at the same time. But we're working on it, and the intention is still to get it at least recorded, and ideally broadcast, this year.

John Finnemore sounds very much like Arthur in my head! I think one of my LJ friends, or a friend of a friend, actually made it to a recording session and said he really is very much like Arthur, except a lot smarter.

I also love the bits where he writes:
You can buy the newly released CDs of the first three series from Amazon. You can buy downloads from Amazon or Pozzitive's online store. Someone has put all the episodes up on YouTube. And someone else, or a collection of someone elses, have put up transcripts of all the episodes, which you can easily find by googling 'Cabin Pressure transcripts'. I only get money from the first two of these, but personally speaking, I have no problem with the last two ways. (The BBC probably don't agree about that.)

and that he's very happy to have fans write CP fic, but he can't read it and won't ever let anyone else write for the show.

I didn't write much fanfic in 2011. In fact, I wasn't going to do a round-up until I lost count of my friends who were doing year-end round-ups and wrote how sad they were that they hadn't done more. Ha! I can be more pathetic than any of y'all!

I went to my website, Aelfgyfu's Mead Hall, and confirmed my memory that I didn't even manage to post a single story there this past year, even though I wrote three short stories in 2011. I just have to redo a bit of the coding and hand them over to Brilliant Husband, but I can't even manage that. I wanted to redo a bit of "Doppelganger" to make sure that it will make sense to Chuck fans who don't know Stargate SG-1, but I can't seem to muster the will or the mind to do it. . . .

My year in fic consists of Tales of an Accidental Fic Writer.

My plan for 2011: write the third story in my Primeval AU; write more SG-1; dabble elsewhere.

What I actually did in 2011: I wrote two Chuck stories and one for Cabin Pressure (details below).

Seriously, Muse?
1. I don't even read Chuck fic! I have read virtually no Chuck fic whatsoever; I'm just not that interested in the show, though I think Adam Baldwin is great.
2. Cabin Pressure is a radio show. I have so far heard: two or three random episodes of series 2; one random episode of series 3; all but the last episode of series 1. That's a total of about eight half-hour episodes of a radio show. I have read some Cabin Pressure fic, and I remain perplexed by it, because for me little of it strikes the right notes. How can I write fic for something of which I know so little?

Enough introduction. Here's what I wrote this year:
Chuck and White Collar )

Chuck and Stargate SG-1 )

Cabin Pressure )

Goals for this year )

( Nov. 23rd, 2011 01:05 pm)
On the highway yesterday, I found myself behind a car with the license plate "Ottery"! I had a moment of OMG ANOTHER CABIN PRESSURE FAN! before I realized that with "Ottery St. Mary" just airing in July, it was unlikely anyone would have a vanity plate based on it in the States already. Brilliant Husband and I are surely not the only people in Florida who have heard it, but I don't imagine there are many.

Sadly, it was a blue car, not a yellow one. That was what BH immediately asked when I told him about the plate.

Still, that license plate made me all warm and happy inside.

Good heavens! I have committed Cabin Pressure fic. I'm not entirely sure how it happened, but it happened. I wrote it quickly, and I really didn't think it quite merited a beta reader beyond Brilliant Husband. (Besides that, the one person I'd ask to beta is a) busy and, more importantly for me, b) the one person I'm sure will read it. And I can't have no one but the beta comment on it, so I didn't ask her to beta. She no doubt knows who she is.)

If there are any errors, please do let me know. If they don't interfere with a joke, I'll even do my best to fix them! If fixing them would harm a joke, I make no promises.

So, key information:
TITLE: Oxford
RATING: G/All audiences
SPOILERS: Vague at worst, for random episodes; I doubt anyone will ever listen to an episode and go, "Shoot! Aelfgyfu gave away this next bit!
PAIRING: Are you kidding? Do you know me?
CATEGORIES: Gen, humor, fluff
LENGTH: 2500 words

Without further ado: Oxford )

Some of my friends dream actual stories; [livejournal.com profile] joonscribble is writing one as a fanfic that's really good! But do I dream stuff like that? Nooooo.

I had a Cabin Pressure dream, no doubt the result of listening to "Cremona" (1.03, I think) too close to bedtime (and while lying on the bed). It didn't exactly have a plot. There was some flying, which was frankly disturbing as the plane went up and down awnings outside shops. I think Martin had an outside job (which makes sense). The most surprising discovery in the dream was that Douglas had an outside job too.

While he wasn't copiloting Gerti (sp?), Douglas had a job as an audiobook reader. This makes perfect sense; as anyone who has heard the show can attest, he has a wonderful voice. He was on a team with two or three others to make the audiobook version of The Oxford English Dictionary.

Yes, you read that correctly. While Joonscribble is dreaming brilliant crossovers (Sherlock + Good Omens! Her WiP, starts here! Go read!), I am dreaming that Douglas (and yes, it was Douglas, not his actor) is recording the OED.

It's kind of cool, but it doesn't even work as crack.
