aelfgyfu_mead: Yellow Lego person pulling open own chest with Lego spilling out (Lego person)

Is this Lego printer awesome, or what? Be certain to watch the video; it's only a minute and a half!

(I especially like the Lego people on the printer, and the pony on the print-out.)

I was sad when Cypress Gardens closed; it was, after all, the place where Weird Al and I had our special moment.

Merlin bought the park and will turn it into Legoland Florida, now slated to open in October 2011! We are so there! When can we buy advance tickets?

Wednesday I got to do something I had never done before: meet in person an LJ friend I'd never met in real life! I also got to drive in circles (not new), and I got quite a light show coming home. Photos included; may be VERY SLOW on dial-up )

Just a few interesting links I've picked up over the last few days, on varied topics:

This little Freakonomics entry gives you a free link to a Chronicle of Higher Education article about the international paper mill trade. I'd have given you a direct link, but I couldn't give you a free one, and I'm guessing most of my readers don't have subscriptions to the CHE. (We have an institutional one.) The article is fascinating, and kind of horrifying, but also rather funny, in a painful way.

I have cut back my reading on RaceFail '09, but I was glad I read [livejournal.com profile] kynn's entry here. I do believe that parody can be powerful; on that note, food and drink warning applies to the entry.

And now for something completely different: my brother sent me a link to a bit of Monty Python and the Holy Grail as a Lego movie. Go watch.

Thanks to my younger brother for the tip:

Dali's "Persistence of Memory" executed in the pointillist style--using Legos, here.
Arthur's other creations are viewable here.

Legos first: [livejournal.com profile] loriel_eris posted a link to a Stargate Lego set-up.

That reminds me of one of the greatest Lego creations I have ever seen: Amy Hughes's Abston Church of Christ. It's amazing. Go through the galleries. Thanks to my brother, who put me on to this years ago; I have been sharing it ever since.

I am also grateful to that same brother for pointing me to Beowulf vs. Grendel. Click on each thumbnail to see a larger one. His favorite bit and mine is in the upper right-hand corner of the first photo; I think you'll know which one.

Academic geekery after the cut )
