aelfgyfu_mead: Aelfgyfu as a South Park-style cartoon (Annie and George)

(The icon is completely gratuitous. Do you know how many screenshots I had to view to get a halfway decent one with George and Annie that I could make into a 100x100 square? Hundreds! Well, scores. I really wanted one from 1.05, but their faces were too far apart in the scene I wanted--plus they both had really odd looks on their faces in most of them.)

ahem I do have a point, and it's totally unrelated to Being Human (except that I see people abbreviating that BH, and I'm already confused, because BH is Brilliant Husband). So my BH called Verizon today about an extra charge, and, while he was on the line, the service rep said, "Did you know that your cable, phone, and Internet are all being billed à la carte? We can combine those, save you money, and probably improve your Internet speed a little."

BH is very pleased. We're going to save about $150/year. I guess I'm a pessimist, glass-half-full kind of girl, because I'm thinking "We paid $300 we shouldn't have!" Mostly, we've been happy with Verizon. I just wish someone had noticed this earlier.

The moral of the story: if you get more than one service from the same provider, check and make sure you aren't paying more than you should. You'll thank me later (oh, wait--that's another show).

A number of other people have posted this link, but I figure it can't hurt to spread it to more people. I got it from [livejournal.com profile] rydra_wong's page. I'm not an epileptic myself, nor do I suffer from migraines, but I know many who do. Several people have said this information is good; I can't vouch for it myself, but it's worth a look. RFJason: Photosensitive Epilepsy: Protect Yourself On The Internet offers help against those annoying and, for some, downright harmful flashing icons.

I consider myself a smart netizen, but I got suckered; if I weren't a Mac user, I might have a serious problem right now! I got an e-mail that looked totally legit to me. I'll put details under the cut, but please read it!

Did you know that styrofoam is a hazardous material? Neither did we! Styrofoam! )

It's beginning to look a lot like . . . spring? Sports and weather )

Happy New Year to everyone!

I got this address from [livejournal.com profile] tejas: a website called Free Rice. They donate ten grains of rice for each vocabulary word you get right.

And because I'm supremely competitive, I'm gonna say I reached 190 grains of rice right off (and was at vocab level 44) before I got any wrong! (Of course, I am an English prof, so I had better do well.) How many grains can you give?
