Hello there! I know I haven't been around a lot lately, but I found a fun meme to play with, so please respond!
From
awanderingbard:Comment with a story I've written, and I will tell you one thing I knew, learned, or wondered about while writing the story that didn't make it onto the page.
My fanfic can be found on LJ using the tag fanfic--or clicking here. That includes even my most recent little stories (ha! as if I ever wrote a truly "little" story). I haven't updated Aelfgyfu's Mead Hall recently, but that's the only place to read most of my longer stories/novels.
All these stories involved things that never made it into writing or made it and were later cut, so don't hesitate to ask about a short one, a long one, or a long-ago one.

It's hard to reply with something about "Oxford" that didn't make it into the story, however, because pretty much everything I thought or wondered and everything I learned in the course of writing it made it into the post, either the story or the notes. I mentioned in a previous entry the dream I had that inspired the story.
Writing "Sunrise over Eden," I learned of historic Mount Eden Prison and decided to project it into the future. It has an unhappy history, though, which I did not project into the future. I do wonder what will happen there.

The story of the prison is fascinating. Buildings/institutions such as that can't help but have interesting back stories. Truth is stranger and all that. The visual of a prison flanked on either side by a school for boys is evocative all on its own.

Still, I can't complain. I always envied people who got fic out of dreams, and now I've had one of my own, which I never expected.
I imagine teachers at those two boys' schools threatening students with prison if they didn't behave. Wrong, but I bet it happened!

I shall hold out hope that one day I shall have a prompty dream which I actually remember and I vow to love the fic which results no matter how odd or black sheepish it turns out to be.
And you're right, they absolutely did, no matter how wrong. Teachers are only human and boys will be boys.
