I found some more info about the origin over at The Mary Sue. Apparently, we weren't really supposed to see this, nor the other vid linked there.

But I'm not complaining that we did. ;)

This is an awesome vid!! Tumblr has been going nuts on it - and there is a challenge where fans are going to 'recreate' the vid and send it to another fan and they're all gonna be cobbled together as a tribute. The '500 Miles' jokes have been going strong for 48 hours now, lol!
