So I was talking with Brilliant Husband about this, and he declared there's no problem with Magic having no memory of the waiting room: "There's a simple quantum explanation," he said, and it's only as I type this out that I decide "simple" and "quantum explanation" do not belong in such close proximity. "What happens in the waiting room is in the future, so from the point of view of the person leaped into, it hasn't happened yet. And when they go back, it could change, so they can't remember it."
I feel like we're probably forgetting something from the original series that may have indicated that someone did at some point remember it. Maybe the senator? But I can't give him a definite counterexamples, and he's usually Counterexample Man. Do you remember anything that could contradict this?
And it doesn't rule out your main point: they could absolutely acknowledge that the waiting room existed in the previous version while saying that they don't have it in this.
