We're considering getting a tankless hot water heater, because our current traditional tanked one (pun intended) is failing. We need to do this soon. A couple of friends have recommended we get the tankless kind, but we can't find how big we need! (Some people need to check their messages more often--and reply.) We will, of course, ask when buying, but I'd rather have the word of friends than just the word of a salesperson.

We're looking at one that provides 2.6 gallons of hot water a minute (9.8 liters a minute) versus 4.0 gal/min (15 l/min). There are three humans (one Aelfgyfu, one Brilliant Husband, and one Small Child), a dishwasher, and, on good days, a washing machine in the house. (The two cats don't actually use hot water.) If you use a tankless boiler, could you please tell me what size you use, and for how many people? (You can send me a PM if you don't mind me knowing but you don't feel like revealing your water usage to the world. If you don't know the specs, any information, such as model number and manufacturer, might be enough for us to find the necessary info.)

There's a substantial price difference between the two, so if the smaller would be sufficient, we'd prefer that. If the smaller is not sufficient, however, buying it could be disastrous.

Thanks for any help you can give!
