I told myself I wouldn't review every episode, because that tends to make me pull things apart and may reduce my enjoyment. But heck, I had some fun, so I'm trying to do a reaction post rather than a review. Brilliant Husband and I were apparently the last two people in the world to see this episode, by the way.

The writing team (yeah, Gero gets the credit, but Mallozzi says everyone pitches in) loses points for:
1. Injuring Sheppard so badly that he needs surgery, yet allowing him to participate in a rescue where, if he suddenly passed out, they could all die. I read a fic where he does this, actually (I won't name it here because that would give away something near the end of the story!), and he does pass out, and I thought the fic did much better than the episode on having Sheppard appear to be in good enough shape for the mission! I'm supposed to believe Keller approves this? Man, I wish Carson were here. And Sam knows but lets him go anyway?
2. Ever since Teyla got pregnant, I knew Rodney would deliver the baby. That's not my big complaint, actually. My big complaint here is that I've been avoiding spoilers very successfully, so that I didn't even know for sure if they'd get Teyla back in this episode, and I thought the baby's arrival might be another episode or two away--until we watched Doctor Who the previous hour! We were zipping through commercials on our TiVo and still managed to see the bit in the ad where Rodney's catching the baby! AD GUYS! KNOCK IT OFF! Jeepers.
3. Michael probably got away. Connor Trinneer is great, but I'm sick of Michael.
3a. Who the bleep could steal a Jumper from a Wraith ship? You need an ATA gene to fly it! Plus, how could they find it?
Yes, folks, there are bloopholes here you could drive twenty-seven planets through--at once. I won't go on (and on) about them, because I had fun anyway. (Hurrah for low expectations!)

1. I knew Rodney would deliver Teyla's baby from the moment we found out she was pregnant, because it's always the least likely person; I could have written that scene in my sleep. But the actors made it work; kudos to them. "I didn't drop him!" Oh, Rodney's face so lit up! And Teyla telling him he would do it without saying "I will kill you if you don't" because her face already said that.
2. I love that Sheppard sussed these guys weren't the right rescue team--and how he tested that (although Brilliant Husband had to identify Duff beer for me).
3. I love Caldwell more every time I see it. "I try to keep the heroic rescues down to one a day." He gives the long-suffering sigh, and then he sucks it up and does the crazy stuff Sam asks. (I've seen people wondering if it's worth it to save Teyla--hey, if Michael wants the baby that badly, and if Sheppard's report of the future has any element of truth, they need to be sure Michael doesn't keep the baby. Blowing up Wraith ships is a notoriously bad way of ensuring that people are dead.)
4. Aiden Ford! I'm miffed he only got three seconds on screen, but it was so nice they haven't forgotten! Huzzah to the writers for this one!
5. Ronon won't stop and ignores everything Sheppard says. "So we have a deal." Love the big guy!
6. Lorne shouting at McKay. I thought, "Finally! Lorne gets to show some personality!" (Did Rodney give him any painkillers? Augh!) We see Lorne not infrequently, but we only get little bitty bits of his past and his personality doled out as if the writers had to pay for each.
7. Sam! Oh, Sam, you're getting a raw deal!

Here, though, are my absolute favorite bits--not because of the show as much as because Brilliant Husband . . . is brilliant. He doesn't do the greatest imitations, but I can tell well enough when he's doing Sheppard, which he did twice last night.
First, John said that he couldn't reach his weapon, so Ronon fumbles around his body for a bit.
BH doing Sheppard: "That's not my gun."

Later in the episode, it's announced that the Daedalus has disabled the Hive ship's weapons (yay, Steven!). Sam says, "I hope Colonel Sheppard has the same luck."
Me: "You want all of Colonel Sheppard's weapons disabled?"
BH doing Sheppard: "That's not my gun."

I suppose those might have been "you have to be there" moments, but I love my BH.

I watched the preview for next week. Man, that looks dreadful! No spoilers--just sayin'.

PS: If you posted an episode-related fic before the episode aired, I didn't read it; I know some of my friends did, but now I can't remember who! Please post a link here so I can find it again!
