Primeval 3.06: Oh, cool! Period dress!

Have I mentioned how tired I am of episodes that throw you in medias res and then start the next scene "Two weeks earlier" or "One day earlier" or "Eight hours earlier"? Stargate: Atlantis beat this gimmick to death a season or two ago and has been whaling on the corpse ever since. All spoilers behind the cuts.

ST: "Where No Man Has Gone Before"

Am I remembering correctly, that this is the second pilot, the first episode they made after they'd put aside the original pilot? No Uhura or Bones, a more demonic-looking Spock (I think I remember reading they modified his look, especially the ears, because network execs found him too "demonic"), characters we never saw before or since--and different uniforms.

I like the uniforms! I like both men and women wearing uniform trousers! Actually, I liked a fair amount about this episode, if I overlook the fact that it's all too close in plot and theme to "Charlie X." ( Cut for length and spoilers )

Movie: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Yes, I do seem to have a lot of reviews to do. Summer, I get a little free time, and what happens? I can actually read and watch things!

We finally saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I don't have a whole lot to say about it. It was a well-made movie, but I got very frustrated with the characters; such is my lot in life, I think. Great cast, weird story; I'm curious to read F. Scott Fitzgerald's original version, which surely doesn't feature World War II! Make-up was phenomenal. I suppose it helps that we have loads of photographic evidence to reconstruct what Brad Pitt really looked like in his teens!

Thanks to hestia8 for noting that Jason Flemyng was in the cast, or I might have missed him; I'd only seen two eps of Primeval with him by the time we saw the movie, and wow, does he sound different to me in the movie.

I think it's worth watching, but I wouldn't move it to the top of my list, were I any of you. Brilliant Husband wanted to see it, and it was worth watching with him.
