Hi, folks! I've been really busy the last few days. I think I've caught up on the flist, but I've commented pretty sparsely; feel free to let me know if I seem to have missed anything. I have Dreamwidth invites, if anyone wants one; just give me your e-mail address. I have actually set this entry to screen comments to avoid revealing anyone's e-mail. (I'm so late in doing this that I suspect everyone who wants one already got one.)

Meanwhile, I've backed up my LJ on Dreamwidth. I plan to do that periodically, but LJ remains my main journal. So far all my friends there are my friends here, so I'm not cross-posting. I may post some stories there because of the longer length allowed, but stories will still go up on my main page.

We visited a different church in a different diocese this morning because we were on a short trip. At the start of mass, the priest had us all say hi to the people around us; that's not unusual for Catholics these days. We said hi and shook several people's hands.

Right before the sign of peace, the priest announced that the bishop had asked they stop doing the traditional sign of peace for the time being, just as a precaution. So he was going to say, "Peace be with you," and we could say, "And also with you," and then we could nod to each other, if we really wanted (though he didn't really leave time). We weren't to shake hands just in case, because of H1N1.

We had to explain to Small Child after mass why we were laughing.

I'm eagerly waiting to see if this spreads to other parishes, and if they too fail to note that during the opening greetings, people almost invariably shake hands.
