Rules:
1. Reply to this post with 'Icons!', and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.
Note: some versions say "five," some say "six"; I plan to do five, but two of the people to whom I replied were doing six. If you want me to do six, let me know. (I realized after I'd replied to four people that I only have 52 icons, and those four people could conceivably pick 22 different ones, or nearly half my total. They haven't all chosen different ones, though.)

This is the Sutton Hoo helmet; I took a picture when I was there in August 07 and made the icon out of it. You can read my entry here; it's short and contains a link to Aelfgyfu's London Visit, which is a misnomer, because half of it has pictures and info about Sutton Hoo. I use this one for most of my posts about things Anglo-Saxon.
b.
I made my Monk OCD icon especially for nitpicking at other people's entries and comments; I figure the OCD reference in some small way excuses the nitpicking. I loved Monk when it started; lately, I feel the writing has been going downhill--all these years, and Monk has learned and progressed so very little?--but Tony Shaloub rocks.
As for me and OCD, see my previous entry on this meme, especially #5, E, and #IV. (I think the fact that I've used different systems of enumeration for each person who chose icons probably says enough about OCD, though.)
c.
I loved Stargate the movie for Jack and Daniel. I resisted Stargate SG-1 because a) James Spader wasn't playing Daniel and b) by the time the show got to a cable channel I received, Daniel wasn't in it anyway. (Yes, I know these two points are mutually exclusive; it's like complaining that the food is lousy and there isn't enough.) But then they cancelled Farscape, and I needed A Show, so when I heard Daniel would be back for season 7, I decided to give the show a try, and I fell in love. Jack and Daniel are still my favorites, but I love Teal'c and Sam, in various friendship combinations with all the others, as well. And Cam and Vala, and even Landry and Lam too. And Walter and Siler and . . .

I wish I could remember the fic that finally pushed me to make this icon, but I can't. I've been saying things like "And then it all went horribly wrong" for years, but there's an SGA fic where John Sheppard wishes he could write the phrase in his report, and I said, "That so needs an icon!" Brilliant Husband took the test and made it for me, because I was having trouble doing it. I don't use it as often as I expected! It works for nearly all fic, actually, but I usually end up using a character icon for fic, both to post my own and to respond to other people's.

I watched a good two, maybe two and a half years of Heroes. I complained increasingly during that time. I fell in love with Hiro, and I love Hiro and Ando's friendship above all. Now BH watches without me. He leaves the episode in TiVo if there are good Hiro and Ando scenes, and then he just shows me those scenes later. We call it The Hiro and Ando Show. If they made a series of it, I would so be there! Actually, I skipped some installments for a bit because My Boys were at odds, and I just didn't want to see that. I want to see them being brilliant together. I loved Hiro from the start, and my love for Ando has grown and grown. They can do what they want to the other characters (and have, and that's why I quit), but they had better not mess with Hiro and Ando, the greatest superheroes on tv!
f.
Martha is my newest userpic. I left her shamefully late! I have loved all the new DW companions, though Donna most of all. (I still need an icon of the Ninth Doctor and Rose! And maybe the Tenth and Rose!) The immediate reason for making this icon was Law and Order UK or whatever they call it. I was pleased to hear that Freema Agyeman had a role a show that seems a shoe-in for a long run. I don't watch L&O shows because they're not my thing: too much violence, too much grit (and don't tell me it's realism, because, well, see this PhD comic to which
bentleywg linked). Anyway, I was very curious about the show and thought I might watch a few episodes, especially the one where Juliet Aubrey did a guest stint, but I figured I wouldn't really get into it. I thus had no qualms about reading
hestia8's spoiler-laden critique of a particular episode focusing on Freema's character, and I was absolutely appalled at what the writers had done.
Thus, I made the Martha icon to wash the bad taste out of my mind. I have many positive reasons to use it too, because Martha is brilliant. Yes, we could argue over a few things they did with the character, and honestly, some criticisms have been leveled with which I wouldn't argue. Mostly, though, I do think Martha is brilliant. She's strong, highly competent, brave, inventive, and takes charge when needed.

If you want to give any of 'em a try, I suggest L&O: SVU, which has some of the best characters on TV, and certainly has the best female character on TV.
