. . . so I did the Fanfic Personality test.

Your result for The Fan Fiction Personality Test...

The True Fan

OOC is blasphemy, canon is everything.

Once you fall in love with a movie, book or TV series, you are loyal like an old dog. You take fanfiction quite seriously and use it as a substitute after the canon run out.

You are probably a walking dictionary of your favourite fandom and you are picky about what you write and read. The closer to the "real thing" fanfiction is, the more you like it.

You would rather explore a character in all depth, see new sides and learn more about them than creating new characters or mix up the situations they are in.

Take The Fan Fiction Personality Test at OkCupid

Note: I fixed a little of the grammar in my result because it bothered me too much the way it was.

I may be a bit slow to reply on this one, but never fear, I do intend to reply! It sounds like fun. From [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2:
Give me the title of a story I've never written, and feedback telling me what you liked best about it, and I will tell you any of: the first sentence, the last sentence, the thing that made me want to write it, the biggest problem I had while writing it, why it almost never got posted, the scene that hit the cutting room floor but that I wish I'd been able to salvage, or something else that I want readers to know.

I've had a very busy week, so I didn't reply to anyone on the icon meme until today. Naturally, three people replied very quickly!

Rules:
1. Reply to this post with 'Icons!', and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

Note: some versions say "five," some say "six"; I plan to do five, but two of the people to whom I replied were doing six. If you want me to do six, let me know. (I realized after I'd replied to four people that I only have 52 icons, and those four people could conceivably pick 22 different ones, or nearly half my total. They haven't all chosen different ones, though.)

From [livejournal.com profile] quarryquest:

You Are a Playwright
You are a highly literate wordsmith. You love both reading and writing.
You are also a natural storyteller. You can turn a mediocre anecdote into a riveting tale.

You find people and all aspects of life fascinating. No topic is off limits for you.
In modern times, you would make a good filmmaker or novelist.

That's . . . not what I expected.

I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] flingslass for this one:

Pick 10 people and give them the "you make my day" award. If you're picked, you are charged with picking 10 of your own.
I'll add a corollary: if you're too busy or just don't want to, you don't have to pick ten. You don't have to pick any if you don't want to! I just thought it would be ungrateful of me not to respond, although it's hard to pick just ten! Please don't be offended if you didn't make the list; I could easily have done fifteen or twenty! (And I'm not picking you, [livejournal.com profile] flingslass, simply because you're already listed here, now twice, so figured I've snuck in a bonus eleventh!) In fact, Brilliant Husband didn't even make the cut, because I tell him in person all the time! (so don't be offended, [livejournal.com profile] dudethemath!).

As I noted earlier, my LJ clocks in at a "post-graduate level".

[livejournal.com profile] or_mabinogi provided this link to a science blog with a little on readability scores, including how to get them. (They don't work quite the same in the older Word for Macs; I don't know if that's because it's older, or because it's for Macs. Anyway, here are the directions for the Word on my home computer, straight from Word Help:
Display readability statistics
1. On the Word menu, click Preferences, and then click Spelling and Grammar.
2. Select the Check grammar with spelling check box.
3. Select the Show readability statistics check box, and then click OK.
4. On the Tools menu, click Spelling and Grammar.
When Microsoft Word finishes checking spelling and grammar, it displays information about the reading level of the document.)

So, naturally, I ran my latest graduate assignment sheet through the Fleischometer, and came up with...a reading level of 10.0: start of tenth grade. Hmm, I said; that's a lower level than my blog. More fun with readability scores )
