And they're all from the same writer. Hey, Stargate has wonderful reccers; I recced twice at [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec and found I had my work cut out for me not repeating recs. Mostly, I read SG fics other people have recommended; you don't need me to tell you what's good there. I can't find comparable communities for anything else.

For everybody, [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller has the highly amusing "88 Lines about 44 Fandoms". No, he's not fair to Stargate, but he's funny. He works in some unexpected fandoms, including the very last one. (To be honest, I don't even recognize a couple of the fandoms.)

The other two are purely Torchwood:
"Compromise" by [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller. His description: "After the Beacons, Ianto's inner censor is offline and Jack refuses to go home. German expressionism ensues."
I'll add that I'm not into German expressionism much, but it's really good. I didn't think I wanted to read another post-"Countrycide" story. Sam avoids the clichés and errors in a lovely, rather understated little story that fits beautifully into canon but goes much deeper. Nor is it just Jack and Ianto; we get brief but satisfying glimpses of the others, particularly Tosh.

For a longer story with an original plot, also by Sam:
"The Theory of Two Centers"
His blurb: "Ianto Jones woke up in a bed that wasn't his, in a flat that wasn't his, wearing clothing that definitely wasn't his." The link takes you to Chapter 1; each chapter ends with a link to the next. There are eight chapters in all.
Again, this is a story I wasn't sure I wanted to read, but I trust Sam. His warnings and ratings are always on the mark; I can handle his R but never look at his NC-17, and I never get nasty surprises about the kind of things that brought about the warnings.
The story sounds horribly depressing, and I don't like horribly depressing stories. It's way more than that. Sam explores memory, amnesia, and personal identity with an absorbing plot that surprised me more than once. Again, he writes the characters wonderfully. This could have been an episode, or a multi-parter; it's kind of too bad it won't be, but I can see it in my head as clearly as if it were.
