Small Child apparently brushed against the iron stand that holds the candles in church this morning when we lit a candle for the repose of the soul of her great-grandmother. She got several small but ugly black wax stains on a red knit dress. It's 100% cotton; I normally wash it on cold delicate and dry it on low.

I Googled and found various instructions for removing wax from clothes. The main advice seems to be to use a medium-hot iron and cover the wax with blotting paper, paper towel, or a brown paper bag; put the paper or bag over the wax, iron over both, and the paper will gradually pick up the wax. One video then recommended "an oxygen-based stain remover" to remove any color that the wax left behind, but I don't know that I'd want to use our Oxy-Clean on that bright red dress.

Has anyone used the ironing method to remove wax? Any alternative or additional advice? You'd think being an altar server for years would have taught me this, but the wax always got on the servers' robes. Not only did the servers never clean their own robes, it was not clear anyone ever cleaned those robes! (It didn't bother me at the time, but when I think back now...well, it's better not to dwell on that aspect.)
