Oh, golly—I'm glad you didn't read these Willis books, Luka! I Googled for "historical errors" in them and found that there are so many no one seems to have a complete list. It appears that Willis has very poor sense of geography as well as dialect. I felt a little embarrassed for not catching some of the errors myself; there was actually a point at which Brilliant Husband and I both thought "There's no way that trip could possibly take so long!", but then I said, "Well, many roads must have been closed because of the Blitz, and the driver wasn't familiar with them. . . ." Apparently the correct answer is: no, there's no way that trip could possibly take so long. She also has characters repeatedly taking Tube lines that were only created after the war.
It's really took bad, because I loved Doomsday Book. I think it's still her best.
