I have a black cat as well, and I know what you mean about photos. They just look like a black lump with eyes usually.
I loved Greatest American Hero as a child, and was crushed when it was cancelled. I haven't looked it up since the Internet yet.
That last one is definitely John Watson. It's in the Great Game, (at 26:24 on my DVD), he's just come back from meeting with Mycroft about the missing missile plans, and is standing in the kitchen next to the fridge, watching Sherlock rant about botulism and Carl Powers' shoes. The 'mantel' there is actually the fridge and a bit of the hanging light fixture over the table. The maker has indeed saturated it a bit and adjusted some colour levels. It's a very apt icon for many situations.
