It's a relief to know that I'm not the only person who didn't really like Stardust, though my reasons were different. I read it in the late '90s, and probably wouldn't have noticed consent issues at the time; I just found it dull (with occasional interesting moments) and couldn't relate to the characters. I love some Gaiman (Anansi Boys, Neverwhere, Sandman), but either Stardust just isn't a very good book, or I'm not the right audience for it.
*squints at the Atwood review* I was so very "meh" about the first book in the series that I still haven't figured out if I want to read more. Oryx & Crake started out fascinating, got steadily less so, and for a supposedly feminist author, she sure does have trouble writing women with agency.
