I was trying to translate some Old Norse and hit a couple of words that put weird pictures in my head--so I thought I'd share. It's sort of like having an annoying song in my head that I can't get rid of, and therefore I tell everyone around m so that they can hear it too.

I'm reading about Ragnarok. The story so far (abridged): after three terrible winters unbroken by summer and great wars, cities fall, a wolf swallows the sun, another swallows the moon, the seas rise, the cities fall, Fenrir and the Midgard Serpent break loose, the ship Nailfarer (made of dead men's nails) comes out, the Fire Giants and the Ice Giants are going to a plain called Warfare.
Then I hit:
"en Muspells synir hafa einer ser fylking"
and the sons of Muspell (the Fire Giants) have their own filking--no, wait, I don't think that's right. (Host. Gotta be host or army.)
"Vollrin Vigriðr er hundrað rasta viðr a hvern veg." The plain Warfare runs a hundred rastas wide in every direction. Shoot. That's probably not quite right either. (Rasta turns out to be from rostr, league, four or five English miles.)

So I've got these bits figured out, I think, but now I have mentally populated the plain known as Warfare with Fenrir, the Midgard Serpent, Loki, the Fire Giants, the Ice Giants--and a bunch of dreadlocked filkers.

I think it's time to knock off the ON for today.

Damn... You are too damned smart for me - I have such a hard time keeping up with you on these, but I still love to follow you into the mythos...

*hugs*
